Funmilayo Charity Foundation Joins Global Parkinson’s Awareness Walk in Lagos

On Saturday, July 26, 2025, Funmilayo Charity Foundation proudly took part in the #Move4PD Parkinson’s Disease Awareness Walk, held at The ADPF Center, 3 Owukori Crescent, Alaka Estate, Surulere, Lagos State. The global event, organized by the Parkinson Foundation in Atlanta, USA, aimed to raise awareness and understanding about Parkinson’s Disease, as well as show support for those living with the condition. It was a morning filled with energy, education, advocacy, and action—and Team Funmilayo showed up in full force.

From as early as 7:30 AM, the venue came alive with excitement as participants gathered to walk in unity for a common cause. Volunteers, advocates, survivors, health professionals, and well-meaning citizens all came together to bring attention to a condition that is still misunderstood by many. Our team stood proudly as TEAM FUNMILAYO CHARITY FOUNDATION, joining voices with a global community of change-makers.

Parkinson’s Disease is a chronic, progressive neurological disorder that affects movement and coordination. It is caused by the gradual loss of dopamine-producing brain cells, leading to symptoms like tremors, stiffness, slowed movement, and balance difficulties. Though it commonly affects older adults, younger individuals are not exempt. Awareness and early intervention are critical in managing the disease and improving quality of life for those affected.

Unfortunately, in many parts of Nigeria and other developing regions, awareness about Parkinson’s Disease is still very low. This lack of knowledge often results in late diagnoses, stigma, and inadequate care for patients. That is why participating in this global awareness walk was more than just symbolic—it was a bold step towards educating our communities and breaking down the barriers of ignorance and fear surrounding the condition.

The walk featured health talks, interactive sessions, games, and a display of unity and strength from participants. The event not only shed light on the medical aspects of Parkinson’s Disease but also celebrated the courage of those living with it. It was deeply inspiring to witness survivors share their personal stories—stories filled with resilience, struggle, and hope.

As a foundation rooted in compassion and social change, Funmilayo Charity Foundation saw this as an opportunity to amplify our mission. Our work in supporting vulnerable individuals, especially in the areas of healthcare, education, and social welfare, directly connects with causes like #Move4PD. By being present, we demonstrated that charity doesn’t just mean giving—it means standing up, showing up, and speaking up for those who need support.

We were especially thrilled when three of our amazing volunteers emerged as winners during the fun activities and games held at the event. Their wins were a proud moment for the foundation and a joyful highlight of the day. It showed that even in serious moments of advocacy, joy and unity can thrive—and that our team spirit truly stands out wherever we go.

Our participation in the #Move4PD walk reinforces the global relevance of our mission. We are not just focused on our immediate community—we are committed to global issues that impact humanity at large. Whether it’s advocating for healthcare access, supporting education, or raising awareness about chronic illnesses, we believe charity has no borders.

Events like this remind us of the power of collaboration. When people, organizations, and communities come together with purpose, real change begins. The Parkinson’s Awareness Walk was not just a one-day event—it was a movement of empathy, knowledge, and empowerment. And we are honored that Funmilayo Charity Foundation was a part of it.

Supporting charity foundations like ours helps amplify these moments of impact. When you stand with us, you help us show up for causes that matter. Together, we can create a future where no one feels alone, unheard, or unsupported—regardless of their condition or circumstance. Let’s continue walking, working, and winning together.
